The State of "Volunteer Leadership Today"

Taylor FernleyWelcome to Fernley & Fernley’s inaugural edition of “VOLUNTEER LEADERSHIP TODAY”, an electronic newsletter designed to offer you, the volunteer leader, helpful articles, creative ideas, and resources to enhance your knowledge and allow you to be a standout in your non-profit organization.

Each edition of “VOLUNTEER LEADERSHIP TODAY” will include articles on a number of interesting topics in the areas of board governance, membership recruitment and retention, financial management, strategic planning, staffing and training, and communication. Our team of knowledgeable association management professionals is uniquely qualified to share personal insights and offer recommendations for transferable ideas applicable to associations and professional societies of varying sizes.

Additionally, each edition will include an informative interview with a volunteer leader of one of our client partners. To that point, I’d like to express my appreciation to Ken Fritz, President of the American Flooring Alliance , for agreeing to talk openly with us about the challenges he has faced in his volunteer role.

Another component of “VOLUNTEER LEADERSHIP TODAY” will be to present synopses from previously published articles that we feel provide value. Where possible, we will also include a link to the full original article or to the web site of the original source.

Fernley & Fernley, Inc. has always supported a strong cultural belief in the importance of giving back to the community. This includes supporting our local (Philadelphia) community through volunteer efforts as well as the association management community. Our associates are involved in and hold leadership positions in a wide variety of industry associations with the most notable being our role serving as the association management company for the Association Management Company Institute , an organization comprised of our peers.

Through this electronic publication, we hope to become a valuable resource to assist you, the volunteer leader, to become more effective in your role as a board or committee member. All we ask in return is that you invest just 15 minutes to read the “VOLUNTEER LEADERSHIP TODAY” each time it arrives in your inbox and that you provide us with feedback on its content and offer suggestions for topics that you would like us to cover in future issues. Please also feel free to share it with others you feel could benefit from its content. You may submit your comments or suggestions by emailing our Editor.
