Philadelphia, PA - Taylor Fernley, President & CEO of center-city based Association Management Company (AMC) Fernley & Fernley, Inc., participated in the 8th Annual Greater Philadelphia Cares "Principal for a Day" event.
Intended to nurture ongoing relationships between the community and public schools in the School District of Philadelphia, this program offers business and community leaders the chance to shadow a public school principal for a firsthand perspective of the challenges and rewards that come with the job.
Mr. Fernley spent the day with Principal Annette Gittelman at Andrew Hamilton Middle School in West Philadelphia. The school provides education to approximately 650 children from kindergarten to eighth grade.
Following the event, a special luncheon was held for participants at the Loews Hotel where Mayor Michael Nutter delivered the keynote speech.
Asked to compare the job of principal to that of CEO, Fernley reflected, "Both positions are extremely challenging yet very rewarding." He went on to acknowledge the impact principals have on changing peoples’ lives. "The business community has a real opportunity to give back to these schools with their time and resources. I plan to be one of them."
