Robert (Bob) C. Fernley, nationally recognized Association Executive and former Chairman of the Board of Fernley & Fernley, Inc. died peacefully on May 8, 2008 at age 85. After graduating from the Wharton School and serving as a 1st Lieutenant in WWII, Bob joined the family business founded in Philadelphia by his grandfather. Fernley & Fernley, Inc. offered a unique concept at that time (founded in 1886) of providing professional services to local and national trade associations
Bob learned the family business and eventually served as Chairman of the Board from 1962 until 1988 when he retired, however, he never lost interest in the company or the non-profit community it serves. In fact, the Association Management Company Institute (AMCI) presented him with their Distinguished Service Award in 2004. This was just one of numerous awards and accolades Bob received throughout his professional career and also in his personal life where he was equally devoted to community affairs and religious pursuits.
His son Taylor is the fourth generation to take the helm of the family firm and credits his father with not only showing him the ropes with regards to business operations, but more importantly, teaching him strong values. One of those values was to develop a strong work ethic; no one could out pace Bob when he was involved in the company. Another was to be a lifelong learner, which has been embedded into the corporate culture of Fernley & Fernley, Inc.
Bob Fernley will be remembered by those who were fortunate enough to work with him as a down to earth, energetic, conscientious and caring man. His zest for life was infectious and will live on in the memories of his family, friends, and colleagues.
(Taylor, Bob, and his wife Alice Marie Fernley)
