Executive Director

The position’s primary objective is to serve as the staff executive for the association(s) by recommending and participating in the formulation of new policies, the ability to build on existing federal and entry into state lobbying and advocacy efforts and campaigns, and supervising the administration of Board approved objectives within the limits of the association bylaws and budgetary parameters.

Responsibilities include overseeing annual audit, acting as agent for external industry partnerships, providing strategic direction and guidance to the board. Keeping committee, consultants, and Board of Directors fully informed on the conditions of the association and on all-important factors influencing them; attending all meetings of the Board of Directors , and committee meetings; manage staff support to committee chairs and committees to enable them to properly perform their functions; prepare agendas, provide leadership during discussions, and implement actions; plan, organize, direct and coordinate the programs/activities of the association to assure that objectives are attained, plans fulfilled and member’s needs met; assist Officers and Board of Directors in developing long-range strategies and priorities for association; responsible for development of and adherence to an annual operating budget and insure the association operates within yearly budgets.

Must be a strategic thinker with the ability to anticipate the needs of the client; to learn quickly, organize details with minimal supervision; and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced, changing environment, as well as have strong ethical values, maintain confidentiality, and the ability to work collaboratively. Position requires moderate to heavy level of travel.

Successful candidates will have a minimum of five years of business (association or non-profit experience helpful) as a key decision maker or leader, superior analytical and financial skills, outstanding written and oral communication skills, as the position requires heavy interaction with members and venders as well as public speaking; and excellent Microsoft Office applications skills, including PowerPoint, prior data base management experience. Travel is required. A bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field or equivalent experience required. CAE certification is preferred. Candidates called to an interview will be required to supply work samples such as their methods for strategic planning.

Associate Director

This position will be responsible for providing client services to both professional society clients and trade association clients and reports to the Executive Director. The primary objective of the Associate Director is to effectively manage daily association operations at the direction of the Executive Director. It may require communications and independent interaction with volunteer leaders including Officers, Board Members, and Committee Chairs, as well as with the general membership and others associated with or interested in the association.

Duties include all aspects of association management such as: managing membership recruitment, application/approval process, and retention according to association policies, marketing of association, its programs and events, writing original content for newsletters, journals, brochures, and website, participating in meeting and conference planning, all preparations for Board and Committee Meetings including drafting agendas, minute taking, coordinating and distributing materials pre and post meeting, advertising and sponsorship sales, managing the delivery of member programs and services, and heavy administrative tasks.

Must be a high energy, strategic thinker with the ability to anticipate the needs of the client, be a fast learner, able to organize details with minimal supervision, work collaboratively with functional support departments, and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced, changing environment. Candidates must also have strong ethical values; maintain confidentiality, and the ability to manage the workload for multiple clients simultaneously.

Successful candidates will have three to six years of experience in non-profit management or similar service oriented business model, excellent written and verbal business communication skills with sharp attention to detail, specifically within communication and proofreading, superior Microsoft Office applications skills, prior database management experience. College degree preferred. This position is an excellent start to a career in association management that offers outstanding growth potential.
